Information You Should Know About

Your Bulldog

eb info

As high quality bulldog breeders, we take great pride in two primary responsibilities: raising great bulldogs and educating our adopters. We first strive to raise healthy, beautiful and happy English Bulldog puppies for responsible adopters. This is our true love. The entire process is a beautiful experience from the first breath of our baby bulldogs to watching each furball find a family that truly falls in love with them. We love watching as our bulldogs become part of each family over time. This is one reason we enjoy staying in contact with our adopters through social media sites like Facebook and through e-mail. Our adopters know we are only a text, instant message, e-mail or phone call away.   Our second responsibility as high quality bulldog breeders is to educate. This is one of the areas that set up apart! Adopters need to know what to expect when potentially bringing a bulldog into their family. We like to inform our adopters how to care for their new bulldog from a social, physical, and dietary perspective. The bulldog is a higher maintenance dog than many other breeds and requires an informed adopter and an experienced breeder for proper care. Adopters that purchase a Bruiser Bulldog are properly equipped to care for their new bulldog puppy on the highest level Below is some additional information that you will want to know about the breed as well as our bulldogs  In particular, Enjoy!

History

historical There is some controversy about the complete history of the English

Bulldog but we do know Bulldogs in England were originally working

dogs who drove and caught cattle and guarded their masters’ property.

At one time, the breed was used in the grueling sport of bull baiting. With

the outlawing of the sport in England in 1835, the original type of Bulldog,

most closely resembling the current American Bulldog, disappear ed from

Britain and was replaced with the dog we now know as the   English

Bulldog While the original Bulldog was preserved by immigrants who

brought their  working dogs with them to the American South, the English

Bulldog was created back in England. Breeders proceeded to eliminate the

original  characteristics they considered undesirable by crossing the Pug

into   the   bloodlines. Over time and many generations the breed we

recognize as the  English Bulldog was created.

What Your Bulldog Should Look Like

We strive for a moderately sized bulldog and try to stay away from the over sized look that is currently plaguing the breed. An

overweight, giant bulldog is prone to heart disease, weak joints and shortened life. Every breeding decision we make is always connected to

the health of our bulldogs. By producing a moderately sized bulldog typically ranging from 40 to 55 pounds, we believe we improve the

health of our bloodlines while maintaining the original look of the bulldog breed.  Our bulldogs have heavy, thick-set, low to the ground

bodies with short sturdy limbs. We are not a fan of the long legged bulldog. If you  want a leggy bulldog, I would suggest the Boxer breed is

a much better match for you. To compliment this squat body type, we like our  bulldogs to have big heads with wide square chests.

What Your Bulldog Should Act Like

actlike We require that our bulldogs carry themselves with a certain level

of  confidence and might I say, swagger. The bulldog should portray

vigor, strength, and stability. A bulldog should be kind, resolute,

and  courageous. By nature and through our unique socialization

techniques our bulldogs are not aggressive and are always great

around children and strangers alike. Our goal is for our bulldogs to

be  the perfect family dog!

Colors of Coat

Our Bulldog puppies come in a variety of colors. Brindle and white is the most common color combination among our puppies. We also

will have red brindles which are absolutely gorgeous. Following these two coats of color would be our solid fawns and solid reds. Lastly,

once in a while we will have a pure white bulldog puppy. Sometimes deafness is connected to all white, female puppies but not always.

We have had numerous all white bulldogs that have had perfect hearing ability. We always do multiple vet checks for our puppies to

ensure each puppy is completely healthy and free of genetic defects before they go to their new homes.

Other Pets and Children

ebchildcollage

Most English Bulldogs do very well around other pets. Once in a while there is some jealousy issues among same sex pairings, but not

typically. Bulldogs have become extremely popular because they are great among people, pets, and different environments. They are

especially great among children and are a great option for someone looking for a child friendly companion.

Protection

tuck6 AKC rates English Bulldogs as good watch dogs. We strongly

disagree! As an experienced English bulldog breeder, we know

that Bulldogs have a number of great traits that make them very

unique such as being lovable, playful and a great family dog. We

also know what they are not, which are great watch dogs. We

joke  the our bulldogs would probably greet an intruder at the

door  and welcome them in. If you are interested in a watchdog,

the   American Bulldog would be a much better option!

Health

sarahschleter Bulldogs are a higher maintenance breed. Some of the common problems

that the bulldog breed struggles with are: hip and joint issues, cherry eye,

heat exhaustion, hypoplastic trachea, and elongated soft palates. We have

dedicated our breeding program to reducing these types of problems in the

breed and in the process are creating a better breed. While we can never

promise that your bulldog will never struggle with a health issue, we do

promise that we work very hard on our bloodlines and produce extremely

healthy bulldogs.

Activity

chipper

English Bulldogs are couch potatoes! While it is good to get your bulldog out and about, hardcore exercising is not one of their favorite

activities. A bulldog does great playing in the yard and with children but is not the type of breed to enjoy a 5 mile hike or a long jog. Many

a bulldog owner has experienced when their bulldog thinks they have had enough exercise. The bulldog will let you know by laying down

and simply refusing to take another step!
